I am a big fan of Craigslist and other places where I can pick up useful items at pennies on the dollar compared to their original cost. This was my treasure for today: WARE Premium Hutch + Rabbit Run for $30!! The list price for these 2 items new is a little under $400. It […]

Quote of the Week: King on Change
Our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

A Mariners Story
Using a yacht as a getaway vessel gave us some advantages. Using freeze dried foods takes water and we carry a finite supply, or we did. We have now installed a reverse osmosis watermaker aboard our boat too. We can now turn salt water into drinking water at the flip of a switch.

Laura’s Prepping Diary- 9/22/11
I was reminded again today of how handy it would be if I were a nurse or doctor. One of the boys’ eyes got bloodshot yesterday afternoon. I wondered if he was belatedly succumbing to the ragweed allergy that is plaguing me, but it seemed unlikely that it would only then begin to bother him. […]

Do We Have What It Takes to Survive TEOTWAWKI?
“If things really fall apart as you say, and I don’t think they will, I’ll just live off the land. You know hunt and gather. Who knows, it’ll probably even be fun. You know, getting back to the way things once were. It’ll certainly be better than my 9 to 5 job.” It’s in Our […]

Backyard Chickens, Part 14 (or Why are my chickens bald and not laying?)
The change of the seasons often bring welcome reminders of times past. That crisp fall air with a hint of woodsmoke may remind you of campfires and marshmallows. The piles of pumpkins at roadside stands may bring to mind Thanksgiving pies and extended family rarely seen. The first frost makes me giddy with the possibility […]

Joe’s Prepping Diary: 09/18/2011
While I was connecting the bush hog to the back of the tractor, I was greeted by 4 or 5 wasps that were rather annoyed with my jostling of the farm implement. Another trip back up to the house to get the wasp spray.

Laura’s Prepping Diary- 9/17/11
This evening I was blessed with an evening of fellowship with the dear ladies who attend our church. At first glance, that may not seem like a preparedness topic, but if you’ve given thought to morale and community in bad times, your church family may be very important. These are the people you have spent […]
