Growing food on your boat

In our prepping planning process we could not figure how to plan for having fresh vegetables, as you might imagine, we have very limited garden space aboard our boat. So we came across the idea of sprouting seeds; this looked to be a good idea for fresh vegetables.

Rule #1 Don't talk about Prepping

I recently found myself in a predicament. Last week I was contacted by the casting director from the National Geographic show, Doomsday Preppers. They want to do an entire show about preppers that are going to use a yacht as part of their escape plans.

storing food by the meal

A while back, I posted a series of pieces on why and how you should protect your food for the long-term.  I suggested ways to get rid of pests and keep out oxygen and light so that the food would remain viable and nutritious for longer periods of time.  The main way I proposed was […]

Using a sailboat as a bug out vehicle

Using a yacht as a getaway vessel gave us some advantages. Using freeze dried foods takes water and we carry a finite supply, or we did. We have now installed a reverse osmosis watermaker aboard our boat too. We can now turn salt water into drinking water at the flip of a switch.
