In the few short days since a gunman entered a school in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been reports about the tragedy and what led to it. Gun control proponents and gun right advocates are espousing their positions and making plans to further their cause. Some are calling for more restrictions on weapons while others are calling for more security and arming the teachers.
Certainly more discussion should and will take place. But now is not the time. Not only should decisions like this not be made in an emotional knee-jerk reaction, but it’s also appropriate to let the grieving parents say goodbye to their kids without 2nd Amendment politics swirling around them.
Laura and I invite you to join us in a moment of silent prayer for the families that were torn apart Friday morning, just two weeks before Christmas. Pray for sense of peace as they remember their loved ones. Pray for our country and it’s leaders, that we as a people will rise up and be the kind of people we were created to be.
As parents of many, Laura and I cannot fathom the pain felt in that small town in the northeast. Our hearts go out to them.

Really hit me hard yesterday when our Pastor read the names and ages of all of those who died before our services and prayed for their families. I had just finished teadhing the 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School class for Sunday School and it hit me that my kids were the ages of those children who died. I can’t imagine the immense lost the community is feeling. Just wants to make me cry….

Thanks for posting this. Thanks for reminding me that I need to stop watching the news so much, and spend more time praying for Newtown.
