Here’s what this week’s Friday Five from PreppingToSurvive bring us: Guns are selling like hotcakes after the U.S. Presidential election, Citizens in all 50 states petition for secession, FEMA Center closes due to weather, and austerity measures lead to protests across Europe.
FEMA Center Closes Due to Weather
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” You’ve heard that about the U.S. Postal Service. If only it held true for the the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, at least one FEMA center closed due to bad weather. No wonder residents are getting angry. Guns are Fly Off the Shelves Like Hotcakes
As predicted by many before the U.S. Presidential election, sales of guns have sharply spiked since President Obama was reelected. Many fear that in his second term as President, Obama will restrict sales of guns and ammunition. In the month prior to the election, background checks, which are a leading indicator of guns sales, increased by over 18%. From The Telegraph.
Amateur Radio is Making a Come Back
In today’s society, real-time information and communication is available to everyone. There are very few places in America where cell phone coverage is not available. Texting, Facebook, and Twitter have become ubiquitous. Yet in recent years one old form of communications has made a rebound. Amateur radio licenses have increased of late. Maybe it’s a good time to get yours? From LewRockwell.com.
Citizens in All 50 States Petition Washington for Secession
Despite a wide margin in the electoral college, President Obama’s margin in the popular vote was relatively narrow with only one out of every two voters choosing to give him four more years (50.5% for Obama to 48% for Romney). In the days after the election, some 675,000 people from all 50 states have signed a petition asking for their state to have a peaceful secession from the U.S. Obviously this isn’t going anywhere but it does illustrate the deep divide in the country. From The Daily Caller.

Economic austerity measures enacted across many of the European Union states have caused a great pains within the populace. Strikes and violence have become more common. For the first time this weekend, those protests spanned countries as demonstrators took to the streets in multiple countries. From The Information Daily.

Hey Joe – how ya doing? I love how the violence and strikes in Europe are second page news on the MSM here in the U.S., but the Petraeus scandal has been the top spot for days now.

Life’s good, Jarhead! How’ve you been? Getting ready for the Thanksgiving holiday?
Laura and I’ve found that we seem to get more accurate news about the U.S. from Europe. They tend to report the news rather than who won American Idol or which Star is no longer dancing on t.v.
