Prepping Diary

The packages from Cheaper Than Dirt arrived yesterday. One box contained the red-dot scope and mounting bracket my Saiga .308. I haven’t had a chance to site it in yet, but I’m looking forward to it. The second box contained some additional magazines. I like getting those kinds of packages in the mail.

I also taught a water rescue course yesterday. We spent 8 hours in an outdoor pool practicing rescuing victims using different techniques and how to tend to them afterward. The water was frigid; it could have been a course of Cold Water Survival, I think.

After church today, the older two kids and I took one of the tires off of the van. I had noticed that the tire was half flat (or half full of air depending on your point on view). After a careful examination, I found what appeared to be part of a chainsaw sharpening file broken off and stuck into it. I’m not sure where we could have picked that up. Anyway, the kids helped me put a plug in it and check the other tires. They’ve both helped enough times that they can largely do it themselves if they had the strength to loosen the lug nuts. I took pictures during each step and will probably blog about it one day.

After dinner tonight, the kitchen sink wouldn’t drain, the same kitchen sink that the plumbers worked on late last week. First thing Monday morning, I’ll give them a call. As I’ve mentioned before, I would really handling these kind of things myself – to save money and to build my skill set – but recently I’ve felt a need to get these odds and ends taken care of sooner rather than later. Not sure why exactly though.

Laura and I used a modified three-pan method for clean the dinner dishes. I’ve had a blog on the three dish pan method half-way written for a couple of month now; guess I need to finish it.

As the day draws to a close, I remember and pray for the families who lost loved ones during the terrible attack on our nation 10 years ago, and for those families who have been continually affected since that time due to the wars America has waged half-way around the world. I pray for peace, but believe the Scriptures that say things will get worse as the day draws near. In the mean, I’ll continue hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
